Subject: Dugan Desert
Hello Kathy,
Thank you (and the other reviewer) very much for your kind words. The area of what remained of the Dugan Desert when I took that photo on April 19, 1981 has changed considerably. As far as I can tell from Google Maps the desert no longer exists. My recollection is that I took it from Williams Rd. looking north just east of the railroad (which still existed then and also had some desert along it south of the road). The site of my photo would be where a new home is being constructed (which will be 13 Williams Rd). You might be able to help with another Thoreau location in that area. If you Google my name, you can find my contact at the bottom of my home page. -- Ray

Dear Ray,
Thank you for this fabulous resource! I live on Williams Road and I'm so curious to know where you took the Dugan Desert photo in 1981. I live on a property that is terribly sandy and we are hosts to snapping turtles who arrive each spring to lay their eggs which makes me think that I live on the Dugan Desert, but i'm guessing the glacier or riverbed that lay down the sand was quite large. Thanks for any information you might have.
